What stores will be closed on Thanksgiving 2017? These retailers are resisting the trend

Shopping on Thanksgiving used to be a non-starter -- for great deals, you had to wait until Black Friday. But year after year, more stores have been opening on Thanksgiving, ensuring that the seasonal retail frenzy will begin at least a few hours before the official start of Black Friday.
That decision, though, has prevented some employees from fully enjoying the holiday with their families.
In 2013, in the face of stores opening earlier and earlier on Thanksgiving, mall employees devised petitions to keep them closed. And in 2014, state Sen. Richard Codey spoke of his plans to introduce a "Black Thursday" bill that would prohibit stores (excluding outlets and malls) from opening before 9 p.m. that night. He cited blue laws that were already on the books in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Maine that prevented stores from opening before midnight on the holiday.
Yet as recently as last year, stores continued to open as early as 3, 4, and 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
But in 2017, there are many stores that are pledging to remain closed for the national holiday.
So how is an early bird shopper to know which is which on Turkey Day?
What follows is a list of Jersey retailers that are slated to be closed on Thanksgiving, as excerpted from a national list complied by BestBlackFriday.com
Black Friday flashback: Remember these N.J. stores?
The holiday shopping season is here, but the retail free-for-all puts us in a nostalgic mood for the department stores and regional chains of yesteryear
